Who am I and why have I started this website?
Honestly, when I first started taking food pictures this is not where I imagined I would be.
Lets start with the basics, my name is Mariam and I am a 24 year old food blogger from Scotland. I was born Muslim and come from a family home of 8 people, and an extend family of over a hundred. As you can imagine its been a busy time growing up around lots of people. Because of this I have always loved meeting new people and discussing their backgrounds, family heritage, etc.
My Father was born here in Scotland whilst my Mother was born in Malawi in Africa. Both sets of my grandparents were born in Malawi also, but my great grandparents were Indian. Hence why in my family house we have a huge influence of Indian culture when it comes to clothing, food and customs. As well as this due to many different marriages into the family the food my mum made for us was different from other households I visited. I often stopped to ponder over way in which my mum’s cooking differed from the mothers of my friends at the time. As time went on I became friends with people from the same culture as mines, as well as completely different cultures. This increased my curiosity for the way in which the same spices could be utilised to create completely different dishes. Whilst being on my journey learning how to cook, I have grown to love the food I grew up on more and appreciate the flavours. I hope to learn many of these dishes from my mother and grandmother to preserve the authentic flavour of the food.
With this blog I hope to become a professional food photographer, review different types of food, learn to cook different types of cuisines and connect with new people in the food industry.
That’s all for now! Hope you enjoy!
